MMY hosted a Melave Malka Dinner on Motzei Shabbat, January 9, 2009, for its Alumnae. It was a beautiful event.
In attendance were representatives from almost all 13 past “machzorim” of the school amounting to approximately 50 women of various ages. These talmidot who came are in various stages of adulthood (some are in college, some working, some are mothers, some live in Israel and some abroad) yet all are connected by the unique experiences they had in MMY. Additionally, much of the faculty (some of whom are MMY alumnae themselves!), came to catch up with their talmidot. Teachers present included Rabbi Lerner, Rabbi Haber, Rabbi Katz, Rabbi Teller, Mrs. Isaacson, Rabbi and Mrs. Brofsky, Ora Derovan, Elana Dvinsky, Mrs. Sarah Dena Katz, Mrs. Elsant, Ahava Ehrman, Arielle Arvele, Aviva Miller and Sally Broker.
While many of the “MMY returnees” were visiting in Israel during their college winter break a large percentage of those in attendance are currently living in Israel or are studying in University here (we have approximately 130 alumnae living in Israel…and counting!). “It was so nice to be around teachers, Torah and the MMY atmosphere again, we really felt we were home again, it was so nice” said Dena Portnoy, from MMY 5769. The program included some Divrei Torah and Chizuk from Sarah (Weinerman) Chesis (MMY 5762), Mrs. Isaacson and Rabbi Haber. As trivia is always a great tool to bring a range of years of students together, part of the evening included an MMY History Trivia Game in which representatives from 13 years of MMY history pooled their answers with the always impressive guidance of Rabbi Katz an his impeccable memory. Many thanks to Mrs. Sarah Dena Katz and Miri Furst, MMY Alumnae Events Coordinators, and Mrs. Elana Dvinsky, Programming Coordinator for all of their hard work in making the evening so inspiring and memorable and for all who participated.
